MBtv: Hong Kong record collector showcases history of music recording

Vinyl, phonographs, 8 tracks, cassettes and CDs… James Tang has them all. Amid the hustle and bustle of Hong Kong’s Causeway Bay district, he has created a gallery doubling as a record shop filled with audiophile relics from the past showcasing the history of music recording from the times of Thomas Edison to the modern day. Tang has invested over 25 years of his life into his passion, and says his collection now boasts over 20,000 records. With his love of original master tape recordings, the 59 year old says his goal is “to create something that can last forever, even when I am gone”.
