The average hotel occupancy rate was 44.6 per cent in October in Macau, or 4.9 percentage points less, in monthly terms, but 4.8 percentage points more, in annual terms, was announced today (Tuesday).

The decrease in monthly terms was due to the 63.9 per cent drop in the number of tourists, due to the application of restrictive measures at the borders between the Chinese city of Zhuhai and Macau, indicated the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC).

In October, the 116 hotels and guesthouses open to the public, three less than in the same month last year, hosted 444,000 people, 1 per cent more compared to the same period of 2020, indicated the DSEC in a statement.

The number of guests from China was 340,000, which represents a decrease of 5.6 per cent compared to November 2019, while the number of local guests, 78,000, increased by 35.6 per cent year-on-year. mentioned.

Between January and October, the average occupancy rate of rooms was 50 per cent, or 25.3 percentage points more, compared to the same period of the previous year, according to the same statement.

Thus, hotels and guesthouses in Macau received 5,480,000 guests, up 94.3 per cent compared to the first 10 months of 2020.
