HZMB areas under mainland administration already equipped with 5G

The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HZMB) areas under Chinese administration is already equipped with 5G technology, the Department of Transportation of Guangdong Province indicated according to the Zhuhai city government website.

About 24 5G base stations have been installed, with connection speed averages 1,000 megabytes per second expected to be reached, with the new technology set to be applied to immersive sightseeing, high-definition facial recognition, and driverless vehicles in the HZMB.

The full application of 5G technology for security checks, emergency management, and control of the bridge is expected to be completed in 2022.

In Macau, local telecom provided CTM has already completed 5G outdoor full coverage by the end of June, with the first phase of the network development costing over MOP600 million (US$75.1 million) and making Macau the first city in Asia to have full 5G outdoor coverage.
