Inflation rate stands at 1.96pct in August

The inflation rate in Macau stood at 1.96 per cent August, according to official figures released today (Friday).

The Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) reported that the rise in the average general Consumer Price Index (CPI) was mainly due to the prices of education (+5.17 per cent), food products and non-alcoholic beverages. alcoholic (+4.73 per cent) and health (+4.58 per cent), compared to the previous period.

In August, the CPI rose 0.94 per cent over the same month of 2019, the lowest increase since November 2009.

‘The annual growth of the IPC in August was mainly driven by the rise in prices: fresh pork; meals purchased outside the home and external consultations, as well as the increase in household rents’, the DSEC said in the statement
