IS members captured in NW Libya: official

The Libyan authorities on Saturday announced capturing members of Islamic State (IS) extremist group in northwestern Libya.

“A number of IS members have been captured in Msallata town, 114 km east of the capital Tripoli, including a senior Libyan member who fought in Syria,” the country’s Counter-Terrorism Force said in a statement.

It confirmed that “cells of terrorist groups will be targeted in all of Libya.”

Earlier in September, the force captured a senior IS leader in the city of Bani Walid, some 180 km southwest of Tripoli.

IS remnants are mostly active in southern and northwestern Libya, moving in valleys, mountains, and rugged desert areas.
