Judiciary Police inspector found dead in Sai Van Lake in suspected charcoal-burning suicide

The Judiciary Police (PJ) has confirmed that one of its inspectors has been found dead inside his car at Sai Van Lake in a suspected suicide.

According to PJ, police authorities found a 47-year old investigator surnamed Cheang inside a car parked near Sai Van Lake, with burning charcoal and a suicide note also found inside the vehicle.

Burning barbecue charcoal in a confined space can lead to death by carbon monoxide poisoning.

“After a preliminary investigation, it was suspected that the investigator had committed suicide by burning charcoal,” PJ told Macau News Agency.

“After examination of the body, no injuries caused by criminal elements were found […]. The case has been referred to the Investigation Division for follow-up”

The deceased is suspected to be PJ Head of Community Policing and Public Relations Division, Cheang Pou Seong, however, police authorities refused to confirm his identity.
