Deputy director of the Macau Economic Bureau (DSE) Lau Wai Meng will take over as chairman of the Macau Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM), replacing Irene Lau, according to public broadcaster TDM Radio Macau. Lau Wai Meng’s appointment is set to take effect on May 28.
Mr Lau was appointed last month Director of the Macau Investment and Development Limited Executive Board, replacing DSE Director, Tai Kin Ip, in the position.
Before joining DSE in 2016, Lau Wai Meng served as deputy director of the Labour Affairs Bureau and deputy coordinator of the Human Resources Office, a former government agency in charge of examining imported labour applications.
Irene Lau became IPIM chairman in October 2018, replacing Jackson Chang, who is set to stand trial facing corruption charges. The trial’s first session is scheduled for May 21.
