Legislative Assembly session possibly extended until September 15

The Legislative Assembly (AL) Executive Board has presented a motion to be voted in the plenary on extending its normal legislative session until September 15 due to the disruption on the normal works cause by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Each AL legislative year session usually runs from October 16 to August 15 of the next year, but according to the motion signed by the plenary President, Kou Hoi In, due to the high number of law proposals under evaluation, of which some are of ‘great importance to society’, an extension to the legislative session was proposed.

AL committee and plenary works were suspended from the end of January to February 25 due to the pandemic.

The extension will be used by the AL to deliberate on 11 legislative proposals, including law proposals on hotel and employment agencies regulations, plus consumer protection law and legislation impacting the remuneration and career of local police forces.
