Macau based law firm Rato, Ling, Lei & Cortés – Advogados e Notários (Lektou) indicated to Macau News Agency that it has opened an office in Shenzhen, focused on real estate, finance and foreign investment from overseas.
The law firm currently has two lawyers already registered in Shenzhen, Pedro Cortés and Celina Ling Lee, and five other lawyers from Hong Kong and China.
‘Lektou intends to reinforce the presence in Macau and position as a player in the Greater Bay Area and within the Platform between China and the Portuguese Speaking Countries,’ the law firm indicated.
‘For that purpose, it has opened an office in Hegqin (Zhuhai) in 2016, in Lisbon (Portugal) in 2017 and, more recently, in March 2021, was authorized by the Department of Justice of Guangdong to open an office in Shenzhen’.
Last year the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress announced that it had adopted a decision to allow law practitioners in Hong Kong and practising lawyers in Macau to qualify and work as lawyers in nine cities of Guangdong Province on the mainland on a three-year trial basis.
In recent years several local law firms have also looked to expand operations in the Greater Bay Area, with veteran lawyer and private notary, Manuela António, partnering with Beijing-based Jingsh Law Firm to open a joint legal services office in Hengqin.
Macau law firm MdME Lawyers also became the first local firm to open a branch office in Hong Kong in 2018, and has announced intentions to open one in Hengqin.
