Logistics conference pushes Belt and Road initiative

The ‘One Belt, One Road’ initiative is one of the key topics under discussion at this year’s Asian Logistics and Maritime Conference (ALMC) being held in the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre and bringing together 70 leaders from the industries to speak at the event.
One of today’s forums at the conference – focusing specifically on regional growth initiatives – is entitled ‘New Opportunities for Modern Logistics Industry in the PRD (Pearl River Delta) Region and Zhuhai from the completion of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge’.
Yesterday’s main topics encompassed the supply-chain management, logistics, air freight and shipping sectors while today will include issues such as Big Data, cloud computing and transpacific trade.
According to the most recent data from the Statistics and Census Service, in the third quarter of the year Macau handled 39,120 tonnes of cargo by sea, 7,683 tonnes by air, 5,430 tonnes by land.
The event will also showcase nearly 100 exhibitors from the e-logistics solutions and logistics, maritime and other related services sectors, while over 150 business-matching sessions have been arranged.
Executive Director of the Hong Kong Development Council, sponsor of the event, Margaret Fong, stated at the opening that: “The three main themes of ALMC 2016 are the Belt and Road Initiative, China’s 13th Five-Year Plan and cross-border e-commerce. In each case, the logistics and maritime industries are front and centre.”
