Macau | Applications open for Macao-China Pavilion at world’s oldest biennale

Macau (MNA) – The Macao Museum of Art (MAM), under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC), is calling for submission of proposals for the Macao-China Pavilion at the 58th Venice Biennale International Art Exhibition.

Applications for the Biennale which will be held in May 2019 in the city of Venice in Italy are open until October 5.

This year’s exhibition, curated by Ralph Rugoff, is themed ‘May You Live in Interesting Times.’

The local call for proposal submission for the Macao-China Pavilion is open to teams only, which must comprise a minimum of two persons, one of whom must be the curator and the other the exhibitor.

All team members must be Macau residents and prove some previous participation in contemporary art exhibitions.

The jury, comprising local or overseas art experts as well as representatives from IC, will announce the final selection in November.

It will be the seventh time that MAM – under the name Macau-China – has participated in the world’s oldest biennale exhibition, established in 1895.

Last year, the exhibition of the Macao-China Pavilion at the 57th Biennale entitled “A Bonsai of My Dreams – Works by Wong Cheng Pou” showcased 17 new artworks, mainly sculptures and paintings, by the artist.
