Macau | Brokerage forecasts 16-17 pct growth in August gaming revenue

Macau (MNA) – Brokerage firm Sanford C. Bernstein has forecasted the city’s gross gaming revenue in August an increase of 16 to 17 per cent year-on-year to a range of MOP26.2 billion (US$3.24 billion) to MOP26.5 billion, the latest note by the brokerage revealed.

Although seeing the VIP performance month-to-date remains ‘above normal’ at 3 per cent to 3.1 per cent, Bernstein voiced caution and pointed out that the ‘significantly shifting hold rates in VIP creates volatility and lack of ability to more accurately forecast the monthly trend’.

The brokerage added that the unclear data about the breakdown between VIP and mass market would have the weight of the overall gross gaming revenue number ‘needs to be taken with a bit of skepticism’ given that its weekly channel checks showed inaccuracy and volatile.
