Macau (MNA) – Restaurants & similar establishments and retail trade showed positive insights regarding their respective segments in 2017 compared to previous year, according to the latest results of the Business Climate Survey released by the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) on Friday.
Over 60 per cent of the interviewed establishments and retailers said their receipts had increased or business performance had been stable in annual terms during the whole 2017, except in February and August.
December´s Business Climate Survey showed 44 per cent of restaurants & similar establishments reported year-on-year increase in receipts and 24 per cent recorded a steady performance.
However, most restaurants & similar establishments forecast a weak January 2018. Just 15 per cent predicted a year-on-year rise in receipts. Furthermore, 36 per cent of the interviewed establishments predicted a decline in receipts.
Over 60 per cent of the retailers saw their sales increase in December 2017 year-on-year. Retailers didn’t expect major changes in January 2018. Among the interviewed retailers, 28 per cent predicted a year-on-year sales decline, DSEC said. Divided by segments of activity, sales of Leather Goods Retailers increased 80 per cent, sales of Supermarkets by 78 per cent, and Department Stores and Cosmetics & Sanitary Articles Retailers both recorded a sales increase of 67 per cent.
