Macau (MNA) – Foundation construction for the new Guangdong-Macau passageway near the Municipal Garden of Dr. Sun Yat, formerly the Nam Yue Wholesale Market (pictured), started Monday, according to a dispatch in the Official Gazette.
The Chief Executive (CE) has approved construction exemption for the new passageway during weekends and late hours commencing today until May 3, 2019.
As well as construction from Monday to Saturday from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm, the CE has approved construction after 8:00 pm to 10:00 pm during weekdays and 8:00 am to 10:00 pm on Sundays and public holidays.
In 2013, the central government approved the construction of the new channel linking the Macau SAR and Zhuhai City, with the construction to involve the co-ordination of authorities of both cities.
The construction of the new checkpoint seeks to ease the overflow of travellers at the nearby Border Gate.
