Macau | Drivers believe changes to CTM Macau Touring Car Cup made the race more “dangerous” – Macau Grand Prix

Macau (MNA) – Timetable issues this year led to the removal of the Macau Road Sport Challenge, with former and new drivers passing to the CTM touring race.

However, this year’s race will run on a new format with eligible cars being divided into 1600cc Turbo, previously from the CTM Cup and over 1950cc classes, previously from the Road Sport Challenge, with each class winner to receive a trophy.

“In our class, you have some TCRs and you have some Evolutions (ndr: Mitsubishi Evo) and in the race on Sunday there will be some 1600cc Turbo with modifications. It will be very different, the breaking, etc. I think it’s a bit dangerous, especially at these high speed points,” Hong Kong driver from KFS Racing, Stephen Lee Bing Fai, told MNA.

For local driver Luciano Castilho Lameiras, competing with the Leng Fung Racing Team, the changes make the race “quite different” this year, but not for the better.

“After qualification, the top 18 cars of 1950cc and above, and the 18 best of the 1.6 litre Turbo cars will mix together for the main race. I don’t think it’s positive because the horsepower between both classes is totally different,” Lameiras told MNA.

MNA reached the Grand Prix Committee and the Automobile General Association of Macao-China (AAMC) in regards to the pilots complaints but no response was received when this article was finished.

The final CTM Macau Touring Car Cup race will take place on November 19 at 9:00am.
