Macau | Forex reserves increased in January 2018

Macau (MNA) – Macau SAR foreign exchange (forex) reserves were up 0.6 per cent month-to-month in January to MOP163.2 billion (US$20.26 billion), the Monetary Authority of Macao (AMCM) said on Thursday.

The data show that forex reserves represented 11 times the currency in circulation or 89.3 per cent of pataca M2 at the end of December.

The exchange rate of the pataca decreased when compared to the currencies of Macau main trading partners, AMCM said, as the trade-weighted effective exchange rate index for the pataca dropped 2.09 points month-to-month and 7.55 points year-on-year to 102.1 in January.
