Macau | Inflation rate rebounds in 2018 to 3.01 pct

Macau (MNA) – Higher prices for clothing, transport and health lifted the inflation rate in 2018 to 3.01 per cent, after the year prior had seen the lowest inflation rate since 2009 at 1.23 per cent, data from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) showed on Tuesday.

The price indices for Clothing & Footwear and  Transport items increased by 6.57 per cent and 5.32 per cent respectively, while the price index for Health costs went up 4.80 per cent.

However, the price index for Communication was down 8.48 per cent, while Alcoholic Beverages & Tobacco decreased a slight 0.08 per cent.

The Composite CPI (Consumer Price Index) for the last month of 2018 increased by 2.94 per cent year-on-year to 114.35, mainly due to dearer charges for eating out, rising rentals for dwellings, higher parking meter rates as well as increasing prices of adults’ clothing
