Macau | Local authors association collected MOP210,00 in royalties in 2017

Macau (MNA) – Royalties for members of the Macau Association of Composers, Authors and Publishers (MACA) amounted to MOP210,000 (US$26,012.7) in 2017, Ung Kuoc Iang, chairman of the Association, said during the general assembly and annual dinner on Saturday.

The money was collected from affiliated societies including CASH (Hong Kong), MUST (Taiwan), MCSC (China), APRA (Australia), COMPASS (Singapore), MACP (Malaysia) and JASRAC (Japan) etc., and will be distributed to local members, the Association said in a press release issued on Monday.

MACA represents 91 local members and six local publishers, as well as over two million music creators from the 49 affiliated societies holding reciprocal agreements with MACA as of January 2018.

The release highlights the activities the Association undertook during 2017 in order to raise local awareness on intellectual property issues, including the Copyright Funfair, MACA Song Writers Quest, and the Macau Copyright Campus Tour, co-organised with the Macau Customs Service and the Intellectual Property Department of the Macau Economic Services (DSE).
