Macau | New head of Friends of Hong and Macau Association

Macau (MNA) – The Friends of Hong and Macau Association (FHKMA) in Taiwan has a new head in Taoyuan City mayor Cheng Wen-tsan.

Cheng took office on Sunday following a committee vote, according to information provided by the Overseas Community Affairs Council, Republic of Taiwan.

Cheng was quoted as saying that he expects the FHKMA to continue to serve as a platform for communication and dialogue between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait including China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau.

He added that Cross-strait relations ‘are crucial,’ claiming that he will work to see more young people participating in related affairs.

The new FHKMA head stated he hopes there can be closer contacts and improved relationships between the peoples of Taiwan, China, Hong Kong and Macau.

The FHKMA was founded in 1986 as a non-profit social organisation to serve as a platform for communication, dialogue and support apropos both sides of the Taiwan Strait.

Its purpose is to promote friendship with Hong Kong and Macau residents and help sustain the freedom, democracy, stability and prosperity of the two regions.
