Macau (MNA) – Reversing the decline of the last two years, the number of incorporated companies in Macau SAR in 2017 increased to 5,177, the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) reveals.
The data also reveals that the total value of registered capital in 2017 went up by 1,013.2 per cent to MOP8.1 billion (US$1 billion) ‘mainly due to the incorporation of companies with large capital in the Financial Services Sector,’ DSEC says.
Some 111 new companies registered capital exceeding MOP1 million, with a total value of capital of MOP7.9 billion.
In quarterly terms there were 1,226 new companies in the fourth quarter of 2017 with registered capital of over MOP596 million.
A sectorial analysis shows that Wholesale & Retail and Business Services were the sectors with the highest increase.
Mainland China was the main source of capital investment during the quarters, with MOP459, followed by Macau and Hong Kong totalling MOP106 million and MOP25 million, respectively.
Split by shareholders, 823 new companies were founded solely by Macau locals, with 134 joint ventures between domestic investors and other countries or territories.
The number of firms in dissolution totalled 803 in 2017, with the value of registered capital of companies in dissolution amounting to MOP146 million, DSEC revealed.
