Macau | Public Security Police Force to convert technical department to Informational Technology Bureau

Macau (MNA) – The Public Security Police Force of Macau (FSM) will upgrade its current information technology support office to a full-fledged bureau, it was announced during an Executive Council press conference on Thursday.

According to a release, the department will be split into two units, namely, the “Computer Systems Department, ” which oversees matters related to technology of the FSM, and the “Land Border Bureau, ” which manages land border facilities.

Both units will have sub-units at the division level.

FSM will expand, adding a deputy director, two department heads, two division heads and some 58 staff, in order to extend its capabilities.

The requirement for FSM to expand was vital particularly after the opening of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge, which opened for traffic on October 24, according to government spokesperson Leong Heng Teng.

Additionally, a focus on using technology for “smart policing” was emphasised in the government release.

Four halls and 10 offices will also be utilised in order to deal with this expansion.

The draft regulation to expand the powers of the FSM will take place following the date of publication.
