Macau | Secretary for Security travels to Beijing to study Chinese intelligent policing techniques

Macau (MNA) – The Macau Secretary for Security, Wong Sio Chak, recently led a delegation to Beijing – January 14 to 18 – to gather information on counter-terrorism techniques and intelligence policing regarding technological developments being used in Mainland China.

The delegation met with the Chinese Ministry of Public Security Counter-terrorism Commissioner, Liu Yuejin, to discuss co-operation and information exchange between Macau and Mainland China authorities.

The group also gathered information on new policing technologies through visits to the Tactical Intervention Unit of the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau and the Tsinghua University Institute for Public Security Studies.

A public consultation for a newly proposed Cybersecurity Law is currently ongoing in Macau until January 24, with the proposed regulations attractedhaving criticisms from local political activists  and associations due to the data monitoring powers it grants the Macau SAR police authorities.
