Macau to ease quarantine period for non-Mainland Chinese visitation to “7+3” from Aug 6

Macau will shorten the quarantine period for fully-vaccinated visitors coming from Hong Kong, Taiwan and other overseas jurisdictions to the arrangement of “7+3” days on August 6 from the current arrangement of “10+7” days,  authorities announced today (Tuesday).

The Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre also said in a statement todaythis new quarantine arrangement also covers any visitors to Macau, who have travelled to these non-Mainland Chinese regions in the past 10 days.

This new quarantine measure in Macau follows the decision made inthe mainland, which has already reduced the isolation period for international travellers to “7+3” days in late June.

Starting from August 6, visitors from non-Mainland China will have to undergo seven days of quarantine in hotels and three days of self-health managementthat theyare advised to avoid crowd gatherings and public spaces, the centre said. They will also undergo nucleic acid testing (NAT) on the first three days, the fifth day, and the seventh day, following the completion of the seven-day quarantine in hotels.

This quarantine measure applies to the fully-vaccinated visitors, and visitors who haven’t completed vaccination due to age, illness or other justifiable reasons, the centre added.

The local government still bars overseas travellers from visiting Macau for travel purposes. On the other hand, visitors coming to Macau from Mainland China now enjoy a largely quarantine-free travel arrangement.

Lei Wai Seng, clinical director of the Conde de SãoJanuário Hospital Centre, said on Sunday in a press conference that the authorities expected “a relatively large number of Macau residents staying overseas” wouldcome back to the city if the quarantine period was reduced to “7+3” days.

Macau has experienced its worst community COVID-19 outbreak since June 18, but the situation is now under control with the start of the six-day stabilisation period today that most restrictions are lifted.
