Macau (MNA) – The Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) hoisted typhoon Signal No. 1 at 11:00 am on Tuesday, its latest bulletin informs.
The typhoon named ‘Barijat’ was estimated to be located at some 510 kilometres east-southeast of Macau, moving towards the Leizhou peninsula, north of Hainan Province.
Barijat is forecast to move west at around 15 kilometres per hour.
The Bureau noted that the Signal No.1 will remain in effect today.
Meanwhile, another tropical storm, Typhoon Mangkhut, is also moving westwards towards the city.
The Bureau stated earlier today that Typhoon Mangkhut will intensify over the next few days and affect the coast near the South China Sea over the weekend.
