Macau (MNA) – The art collection to be exhibited at the latest casino-resort addition to open in town on January 29, MGM Cotai, led by Pansy Ho, has a price tag of over HK$100 million (US$12.79 million).

Following previous announcements, MGM China Holdings Limited has now disclosed the cost of the artwork that will make up the MGM Cotai Art Collection and be exhibited on a permanent basis, presented as one of a series of events to be held throughout the year to mark the opening of the company’s second property in the Macau SAR.

Featuring more than 300 artworks, the MGM Cotai Art Collection includes modern and contemporary Asian paintings and sculptures by ‘renowned artists, freshly-commissioned works by local and regional rising talent, and large-scale installations,’ a press release on Friday late evening outlined.

Headlining the MGM Cotai Art Collection is a series of 28 Chinese imperial carpets dating from the Qing Dynasty, which once adorned the Forbidden City in Beijing.

In addition, the MGM Cotai Chairman’s Art Collection will feature some 25 artworks by celebrated modern and contemporary Asian artists curated by Calvin Hui, a cultural entrepreneur and artistic director in Hong Kong.

‘MGM COTAI has been uniquely and meticulously designed for this market and demonstrates our commitment to supporting Macau’s continued evolution into a global destination for tourism and leisure,’ Grant Bowie, the Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of MGM China was quoted as saying.

The company further noted that following the public opening of MGM Cotai on January 29, the official grand opening ceremony and gala dinner to be officiated by government officials will take place on February 13, in anticipation of the Chinese New Year (February 16 to 18).

Additional events to be held throughout the year announced by the company include the opening of the property’s resort, the first international MGM Mansion, the debut of resident shows ‘The Experience’ and ‘Destiny’ at the MGM Theater, and a showcase of retail and celebrity chef events.
