Macau | Visitor spending up 20 pct y-o-y in Q2

Macau (MNA) – Total spending by visitors, excluding gaming expenses, during the second quarter of 2018 has surged 20 per cent year-on-year to MOP16.50 billion (US$2.04 billion) and a slight increase of 0.5 per cent when compared to the previous quarter, the latest data released by the Statistics and Census Services (DSEC) reveals.

Total spending by overnight visitors and same-day visitors were MOP13.36 billion and MOP3.14 billion, registering increases of 17.4 per cent and 32.7 per cent year-on-year, respectively.

During the quarter, per capita spending of visitors was MOP1,996, indicating an increase of 11.6 per cent when compared to the same quarter a year ago.

Per capita spending of visitors from Mainland China, in particular, was up 9.5 per cent year-on-year to MOP2,367.

Pertaining to the type of spending, DSEC data shows that visitors in Macau mainly spend on shopping, accommodation and food & beverage, accounting for 46.3 per cent, 27.8 per cent and 18.7 per cent, respectively.
