Macau | Zhuhai transit visa hike not affecting industry – Morgan Stanley

Macau (MNA) – More expensive visas issued in Zhuhai will ‘have minimal impact on overall visitation and gross gaming revenue’ in Macau SAR, a Morgan Stanley research note said on Friday.

The Morgan Stanley note says that the new fee for Zhuhai visas, which were increased to US$50, ‘is high but not significant for average gamblers’ theoretical loss of US$4,000,’ the average mass drop per Chinese visitor.

The report also states that the policy is not considered a measure from central government to restrict visitation to Macau.

Morgan Stanley indicates that the ‘bigger impact is for genuine overseas tourists and gamblers who may have to fly through Hong Kong instead’.
