For years, hundreds of thousands of labourers from across Asia have flocked to Qatar to labour on giant construction schemes for the FIFA World Cup and other projects, and in its service industries. Drawn by the prospects of making far more money than they could ever hope to at home, migrants — mostly from the Indian subcontinent and the Philippines, as well as African nations including Kenya and Uganda — make up more than 80 percent of Qatar’s 2.8 million population.
