Melco’s ‘Splendors of China’ program creates national pride among colleagues and the community

Melco Star Macau Youth Talent Competition generates patriotism in local youth through enhanced Chinese culture awareness and education

As part of Melco Resorts & Entertainment’s ‘Splendors of China’ national education learning program, and in efforts to inculcate patriotism through enhancing awareness and education on Chinese culture for youth in Macau, Melco and the National Conditions Education (Macau) Association co-hosted the Second Melco Star Youth Talent Competition Finals. The competition resulted in approximately 900 students from 55 schools and arts institutions, bringing 142 Chinese cultural arts performances in acts including dance, songs and recitals. A total of 26 finalists showcased their talent last week at Studio City.

During the event, Melco Chairman & CEO Mr. Lawrence Ho said, “Melco is committed to promoting national pride through education and awareness through our ‘Splendors of China’ initiative.  We thank the National Conditions Education (Macau) Association on the co-organization of this event to foster awareness, appreciation and pride in the young people of Macau through cultural performance competitions. We hope that the ‘Melco Star Macau Youth Talent Competition’ can be an artistic stage that carries the wishes and dreams of the new generation. I would like to thank the Macau Liaison Office and the Macau government for their care and guidance, as well as the efforts made towards youth development in Macau from Melco and Mr. Lawrence Ho. Thank you also to the principals, teachers and parents of the participating schools for their active support for the event and the wonderful performance of the contestants.”

Launched in 2016, Melco’s ‘Splendors of China’ nationalistic learning program endeavors to create national pride by educating China’s cultural heritage, economic policies, social systems and values to colleagues and the community. The ‘Splendors of China Passport Program’ has recorded over 8,300 management and non-management colleagues. A post-event survey found 98% of participants felt prouder of China’s culture and would like to learn more on China’s history and culture in the future because of the program.

The ‘Splendors of China Passport Program’ is a comprehensive program comprising mandatory courses on Chinese culture and history; elective courses on cultural aspects of understanding China; visits to exhibitions related to national education and events such as Chinese knowledge competitions and Chinese cultural youth talent shows. Upon completion of the program, colleagues will be eligible for entry to a prize draw for a sponsored trip to experience red tourism.

The Melco ‘Splendors of China’ learning program is delivered through a systematic framework. Activities are based on four main categories including the ‘Splendors of China Passport Program’, Youth & Culture, National Education Forums and In-depth Studies. It provides comprehensive knowledge about China through promoting Chinese cultural heritage, economic policies, social systems and values whilst cultivating nationalism and patriotism.
