MGTO pledges further co-operation with HKSAR tourism industry

In 2015 alone, 6.4 million visitors to Macao held Hong Kong resident cards, an increase of 1.7 per cent year-on-year. Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTP) held a luncheon in Hong Kong yesterday in order to thank that territory’s travel trade for its co-operation and support. During the past year, Macao received over 30 million visitors, with Hong Kong the second largest tourist source market, according to government data. For this year, MGTO announced that its representative in Hong Kong will strengthen its communication with media and industry partners by regularly organising seminars, product update presentations, thematic familiarisation tours and joint promotions. In addition to this strategy, the representative will increase its use of the Internet and social platforms for tourism promotion. Moreover, MGTO is planning various promotional activities to develop during the year that will target ‘different market segments including families, youngsters, as well as niche markets such as students, wedding couples and business incentives’. The goal is to demonstrate the diversity of Macau’s tourism offering. At the luncheon, which included more than 150 travel trade executives, Macau was represented by MGTO Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes and Deputy Director Cecilia Tse.
