MICE sector should see ‘strong recovery’ in 2021 – Sector rep

The meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE) sector should register a “strong recovery” in this year’s overall balance, the president of the Macau Convention and Exhibition Association stated to newspaper Tribuna de Macau.

According to Ho, after more than 300 events were held in the SAR in 2020, the number should rise to between 600 and 700 this year.

Events such as the Macau International Environmental Cooperation Forum and Exhibition (MIECF) to be held from August 5 to 7, were said to reflect a more “dynamic sector”, with overseas exhibitors, attendees, and companies seeking to find alternative ways to attend the events despite travel restrictions, such as sending mainland representatives to Macau.

Between January and March, 68 MICE sector events were held, including 61 meetings and conferences, and seven exhibitions, with the number of participants and visitors increasing by 71.7 per cent year-on-year to 138,000.
