More than 16,000 people already vaccinated

Some 16,044 people had already received the first Covid-109 vaccine dose as of March 2, with some 39,054 appointments made so far, health authorities announced.

Vaccination with BioNTech vaccines will be initiated today, with only Sinopharm vaccines available until now.

With vaccination being voluntary, the local Health Bureau (SS) has repeatedly urged residents to be inoculated so as to reduce health risks for residents and with a satisfactory group immunity only reached after at least half of the local population is vaccinated.

The Macau government has purchased 500,000 doses of Covid-19 vaccine developed by Sinopharm; 400,000 doses of the mRNA-based vaccine by BioNTech, distributed in China by Fosun Pharma; and 400,000 doses of the vaccine developed by AstraZeneca.

In addition to residents, non-resident workers, students authorized to stay in Macau and prisoners will have free access to the vaccine.

The remaining non-residents of Macau, but legally authorized to remain in the territory, will pay the vaccine administration fee of MOP250 for each dose.

The Sinopharm vaccine is being administered in 12 health centres and at the Conde de São Januário hospital, but in the next two weeks, the administration of the BioNTech vaccine will take place exclusively at the local public hospital.
