More than 53,000 people already registered in Health Code app with contact tracing option

A total of 53,079 people have already registered for the Macau Health Code mobile application launched last week, health authorities indicated.

The mobile app version of the Macao Health Code includes a contact tracing function allowing residents to voluntarily record locations where they have been, as a way to assist health official investigations in the future

During the app’s trial phase, the new contact tracing function QR codes are only being used at the Conde de São Januário Hospital Centre, public health centres and health stations, and other SS facilities.

Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre Coordinator Dr. Leong Iek Hou stated in yesterday’s pandemic update press conference that the public’s reception of the app was “favourable”, with the department to continue to gather opinions from the public and improve the application.

In order to further promote the use of the app, all public services are creating the possibility of posting the exclusive QR Code during the month of November, which will allow citizens to register their itineraries and data in the related public services.

The government has also established an agreement with Macau Pass and the two local bus companies to implement a bus rider real name registration scheme, with residents asked to register until December 11, after which they will need to pay the full MOP6 bus fare.
