Motor vehicle tax hikes from today

The city’s motor vehicle tax officially increased from today, the Official Gazette announced yesterday. The average tax rate for a newly imported automobile has increased to 40 to 72 per cent depending upon the imported price, compared to the previous 30 to 55 per cent. Meanwhile, that on motorcycles and scooters now ranges from 24 to 50 per cent from 10 to 30 per cent. The increase in tax, approved by the Legislative Assembly last week, ultimately seeks to control the city’s growth of vehicle numbers. Yesterday’s dispatch also announced the de-listing of tourist vehicles from vehicle tax exemption.
