Mozambique: EU to provide €428 mln support over next four years

The European Union (EU) will provide 428 million euros to Mozambique over the next four years, as part of the strategic programme with the country, the organisation said in a statement.

“This development support will contribute to an integrated response to issues of peace and security, humanitarian aid and development,” the EU statement said.

The support falls under the Strategic Programme for Mozambique (2021-2027), approved by the EU this month which is based on three pillars: support for youth, green growth and good governance.

“Among the priority interventions of this programme will be the fight against growing inequalities. Support for civil society will also have an important place in cooperation between the European Union and Mozambique with a view to strengthening pluralism,” the note added.

The Strategic Programme for Mozambique 2021-2027 will be assessed after the first four years, during which time the body will analyse possible financial support for the remaining period.
