Mozambique: Woman beaten up, set on fire by husband dies in Nampula hospital

The woman torched by her husband for passionate reasons did not resist her injuries and died on Tuesday, a source from Nampula hospital (HCN) told Lusa on Thursday.

“She came in with fourth-degree burns, that is, with about 90 percent of the body surface burned,” Laise Duarte, a general practitioner at HCN, told Lusa.

The victim’s husband, who is on the run, beat her and set fire to her after dousing her with petrol for reasons of passion, the police told Lusa on Tuesday.

The case occurred in Nampula province, in northern Mozambique.

According to the doctor, the victim was admitted to hospital on Monday morning and died on Tuesday afternoon after being admitted to intensive care.

“Since she came in it has been getting worse. The possibility of survival was very minimal, she was all burnt”, Laise Duarte mentioned.

According to the victim’s brother, the couple already had problems, but that in the meantime there was a reconciliation.
