MSAR unifies higher education subsidies

Student subsidies for loans and scholarships for higher education have seen an across-the-board rise, according to the Official Gazette yesterday. The monthly subsidies for students studying abroad and from low-income households have risen by 35.7 per cent for higher education students studying in Mainland China, according to Chinese broadcaster TDM radio. This unifies values at MOP3,800 for students studying in the Mainland, Macau and Taiwan.
For those studying in Hong Kong the monthly subsidy has risen 3.5 per cent, according to the broadcaster, to MOP5,800. Apart from these three regions, students from low-income households studying in ‘other countries and regions’ are also entitled to a MOP5,800 subsidy or loan.
