Veteran legislators Ng Kuok Cheong and Au Kam San have hinted that they are pondering to not head their respective electoral campaigns for the upcoming 2021 Legislative Assembly (AL) elections, Macao Concealers reported.

Legislator Ng Kuok Cheong indicated to the publication that whether he would take part in the elections would depend on their his health condition and hoped he could support younger candidates to participate in politics.

Meanwhile, Au Kam San expressed the probability of him taking part in yet another election “is not high” and would be considered carefully.

If they are not elected, it would be the first time that both veteran pro-democracy legislators are not present in the AL since 2001.

One of the founding members of the New Macau Association, Ng Kuok Cheong has been repeatedly re-elected to the plenary since 1992, with Au Kam San first elected through the same political association in 2001.

In the 2017 elections, the two legislators chose to run their campaigns in separate electoral political associations.
