Portugal: Covid-19 claims 74 more deaths, 4,044 new coronavirus cases in last 24 hours

The director general of health said on Monday that the northern region continues to be more affected by Covid-19, registering 1,332 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, but highlighted the trend of slowing down in some counties with high incidences.

“There are municipal disparities and regional disparities. The northern region, with 1,332 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, continues to be the most affected, followed by the Lisbon and Tagus Valley region with 500 cases per 100,000 inhabitants,” Graça Freitas said at the press conference to update information regarding the new coronavirus infection.

She stressed that also “some municipalities with very high incidences are beginning to show a downward trend.

Portugal now has 74 more deaths related to Covid-19 and 4,044 new cases of infection with the new coronavirus, according to the Directorate General for Health (DGS).

Since the beginning of the pandemic, Portugal has already registered 3,971 deaths and 264,802 cases of infection with the SARS-Cov-2 coronavirus, and today 84,004 cases are active, 62 more than on Sunday.

As regards hospital admissions, the DGS epidemiological bulletin shows that 3,241 people are admitted (90 more than on Sunday), 498 of them in intensive care (seven more in the last 24hours).

At the press conference, Graça Freitas pointed out that the age groups with the highest incidence are between 20 and 49 years of age, and there is still a high number of people over 80 years of age.

The overall mortality rate is 1.5% and the mortality rate in the 70+ age group is 9.6%.
