The search to find a German tourist who is missing in Madeira, after having fallen into the sea in the north zone, was resumed on Friday and continues by land and sea, the commander of the Maritime Zone said.
“The search was resumed at around 08:00 at the place where the young man disappeared and will continue by land and sea,” Guerreiro Cardoso told Lusa.
On Thursday, the 24-year-old German tourist fell into the sea in the São Jorge area, municipality of Santana.
The Funchal captaincy said in a statement that “the victim suffered a fall to the sea without and was return to land by his own means, and is now missing.
The man was accompanied by another tourist of the same nationality who was rescued.
The alert was given at 15:45 on Thursday and searches were carried out by the local Voluntary Fire Brigade with the use of two boats and two drones.
The strong swell hampered the operation, which was interrupted at dusk.
“Today the sea conditions are slightly better”, Guerreiro Cardoso said.
