Portugal: May unemployment rate at 6.1 pct up 0.2 pct from April – official

The unemployment rate was 6.1% in May, 0.2 percentage points higher than in April, but lower than the 6.9% in May 2021, according to provisional data released on Wednesday by the National Statistics Institute (INE).

According to INE’s ‘Monthly Employment and Unemployment Estimates’, in May “the unemployment rate stood at 6.1%, up 0.2 percentage points from the previous month and 0.3 percentage points from three months earlier, but down 0.8 percentage points from a year earlier”.

These statistics also revised upwards the unemployment rate for April from a provisional 5.8% to 5.9%, “the same as the previous month and three months earlier and 1.1 percentage points lower than a year earlier”.
