Portugal: Public allowed back into sports venues

Sporting events will be able to have fans in the stands from 1 August, provided that the health authority (DGS) rules are applied, Prime Minister António Costa announced on Thursday.

“[We will] allow sporting events to start having audiences in accordance with the rule specifically defined by the Directorate-General of Health,” he said at a press conference at the end of a cabinet meeting that defined the measures for the reopening of the country.

During the presentation of the new measures, which contemplate different phases of opening, Costa revealed that, in the first phase, starting on 1 August, people with a vaccination certificate or a negative test for Covid-19 may enter cultural, sporting or corporate event venues, with more than 1,000 people (in open spaces) or 500 (in closed spaces).
