Pousada de Coloane Hotel closes temporarily after guest confirmed as Covid-19 case

The management of Pousada de Coloane Hotel has indicated to Macau News Agency that it has decided to temporarily suspend operations after it was confirmed yesterday that an Australian guest tested positive for Covid-19.

Yesterday, an Australian tourist was confirmed as the 30th Covid-19 case in Macau. The 52-year old man – who travelled from the UK – stayed in the hotel at Cheoc Van Beach from March 15 to 20.

Health authorities stated yesterday that the man mainly stayed in the hotel or the nearby beach during that time, eating most of his meals in the property.

According to management, although health authorities did not suggest for the property to close temporarily they decided to do so out of precaution and proceed with cleaning and disinfection works.

No timeline for re-opening was provided.

The staff – which was said to have minimum contact with the guest – has also been contacted to be tested for the novel coronavirus.

The Australian man also had a meal at the La Gondola restaurant on March 19.

As of today, 31 Covid-19 cases have been reported in Macau, with 21 registered in the last 10 days, most of them imported and considered as low-risk.
