Qingmao border expected to be completed by the end of 2020

Macau (MNA) – The new Guangdong-Macau border access – Qingmao Border will not open this year, with the Secretary for Transport and Public Works Raimundo Arrais do Rosario saying on Thursday the new border will likely only be completed at the end of next year.

The Macau SAR government and the Guangdong provincial government had previously expected to open the Qingmao border by the end of this year, but the Secretary now clarified the progress of the construction.

“I had heard about this news, but the completion date on the construction contract is by December 2020,” the Secretary told the media after the meeting with the Follow-up Committee for Land Affairs and Public Concessions of the Legislative Assembly (AL).

The Macau SAR government is responsible for the entire construction project of the joint inspection station building, with the southern part of the building still under construction.

However, as the northern part will hand over to the Mainland authorities, the planning and design will not be the responsibility of Macau authorities.

“We had just received the northern part planning from the Mainland on June 28, and we will soon initiate the price quoting and granting procedures within one to two months,” Mr. Rosario stated.

The Committee President, Lei Cheng I, cited that the government expected the budget of the southern building to be about MOP1.5 billion (US$187 million), while channels connected to the Zhuhai city would reach some MOP900 million.

Meanwhile, the improvement works for the water pollution of Canal Dos Patos would be some MOP1.6 million.

A pedestrian bridge will be built in order to connect the Qingmao border and the social housing of the Ilha Verde district, with construction expenses expected to reach some MOP100 million.

Previously, the Zhuhai government had revealed the budget of the Qingmao border would be a total of MOP5 billion.
