After budget and deadline overruns, the new overpass in Avenida dos Jogos da Asia Oriental in Taipa will open for traffic on the morning of September 25, authorities announced today (Monday).
With its opening, the Transport Bureau expects the flow of vehicles at the roundabout in Avenida da Piscina Olimpica will be reduced by a third.
The project near the Macau Jockey Club and the Estrada da Baía de Nossa Senhora da Esperança includes two ramps, each in one direction with a width of 6 meters, with the approximate length of the east road being 732 meters and the west road 434 meters, conecting Avenida das Jogos da Asia Oriental and the Estrada da Baia da Nossa Senhora da Esperança.
The completion of the remaining roads, the reorganization of underground sewage and gardening on the periphery of the viaduct will be fully completed in the fourth quarter of this year.
Planning for the southwest access ramp connecting Avenida dos Jogos da Asia Oriental and Avenida Marginal Flor de Lótus – the second phase of the overpass project – will also be completed in the 4th quarter of the current year, with public tender procedures beginning immediately afterwards.
Construction of the new overpass was initiated in 2018, however the initial 920 days deadline for the project handed to Companhia de Fomento Predial Sam Yau, Limitada was exceeded by 7.5 per cent, with its initial MOP296.2 million (US$37 million) budget surpassed by 4.7 per cent.
Several factors for exceeding the deadline and budget were provided by authorities, namely, adverse weather conditions, the adaptation of the project to the real conditions of the construction site, cable deviation works, and the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.
