Sands China Ltd says the MOP3 billion (US$375 million) lawsuit filed by Asian American Entertainment Corporation Ltd. over how Sands was awarded its Macau gaming license is “meritless”. “The company will vigorously defend the matter in court,” Sands China added in a stock filing. The claim filed with the Macau Judicial Court names Venetian Macao, S.A., a subsidiary of Sands China, and LVS (Nevada) International Holdings, Inc., Las Vegas Sands LLC, Venetian Casino Resort Hotel, LLC as the defendants. The claim is for an amount of MOP3 billion as compensation for damages resulting from the alleged breach of agreements entered into between Asian American Entertainment Corporation, Ltd and the defendants for their joint presentation of a bid in response to the public tender held by the Macau government for the awarding of gaming concessions at the end of 2001. Asian American brought a similar claim to the district court for Nevada but the case was dismissed on procedural grounds.
