Some 55,950 visitor arrivals reported in Easter holidays so far

The Macau SAR has reported 55,953 visitor arrivals during the Easter holiday period between February 15 and 17, about half of the number seen last year, data published by the Public Security Police Force shows.

The overall aggregate number of visitor arrivals and departures at all checkpoints in Macau reached 112,303, with more than 1.02 million total entries and departures registered within local borders.

The local Easter holidays this year will cover four days between April 15 and 18.

Last year the Easter holiday – which included the three-day Ching Ming Festival Holidays on the mainland – reported a 39.3 per cent year-on-year increase in visitor numbers to about 99,568.

Despite the Chinese New Year period visitor arrivals have dropped by 5.6 per cent month-on-month in February to some 655,505 visitors with several pandemics flashpoints and lockdowns in Mainland China greatly reducing visitor volume in the SAR, with further monthly decreases expected for March.

A total of 48,536 visitor arrivals were reported during the Ching Ming Festival holidays period between April 3 and 5, about half of the visitor volume seen the previous year.

A 24-hour negative covid test result requirement for people visiting from the neighbouring Guangdong province has also compuned the usual daily visitor volume, and is expected to be maintained until a current Guangzhou outbreak ha snot be controlled.
