Special ferry service with HK will not be extended beyond July 16

Health authorities indicated today (Wednesday) that the special ferry service arranged between Macau and the Hong Kong International Airport will not be extended beyond July 16.

The service was established since June 17 as a special transport channel for local residents wanting to return to Macau and people looking to leave the city without having to undergo the mandatory quarantine in Hong Kong.

Speaking in today’s pandemic update press conference, the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) Public Relations Director stated that the last ferry departing from Macau to the HKIA will depart at 7:00pm of July 16 with the last ferry returning from HKIA to depart at 11:00pm.

The MGTO representative also noted that the recent pandemic situation in Hong Kong could lead to tighter quarantine measures, with the neighbouring SAR having reported a surge in infections, with 19 new local infections reported just today.

As of today, 1,684 people have registered to return to Macau through the special ferry service, of which a total of 1,267 have already returned. Meanwhile, some 670 people have left the Macau SAR through the transport channel.
