Melco hosted an exclusive national education study trip to Shanghai for 20 management representatives

Melco Resorts & Entertainment (Melco) believes service excellence comes from a better appreciation and understanding of its clients. Launched in 2016, “Splendors of China” is a learning program at Melco which helps provide employees with knowledge on the current national conditions in China with the aim to enable better services to Mainland Chinese guests. An important segment of the company’s Whole Person Development Program, “Splendors of China” provides employees with the chance to gain a deeper understanding about mainland China’s culture, economic policies, social systems and values.

During 21-25 May, 20 of Melco’s management representatives attended an exclusive national education study trip to Shanghai at the China Executive Leadership Academy Pudong (CELAP). CELAP is a national institution in leadership training and development. CELAP aims to serve as a base for educating revolutionary traditions and fundamental realities of China, to enhance leadership capacities of Chinese leaders, and to be used as a platform for international exchange and cooperation.

“’Splendors of China’ is a Melco-developed program about Chinese cultural heritage, history and modernization designed to help colleagues understand and deliver Melco’s service promise to customers from Mainland China, who account for the majority of our clientele.” Mr. Lawrence Ho, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Melco Resorts & Entertainment, said.

The itinerary included seminars and site inspections of Shanghai’s signature tourism models
and cultural preservation areas within the city, such as Zhujiajiao Village in Qingpu District.

With support from the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR Region, employees participated in courses, seminars and site visits with the aim to increase knowledge and understanding of the Mainland’s current national conditions, its history and culture, tourism development, security measures as well as diplomatic approaches. Course content included dialogue sessions on the development of the Greater Bay Area, and site inspections of signature tourism models and cultural preservation areas such as Zhujiajiao Village in Shanghai’s Qingpu District.

Melco participant and class leader, Mr. Lawrence Li, Executive Director, Human Resources of Melco Resorts & Entertainment, commented, “The excursion was packed with information and activities to keep colleagues up to date with the latest national developments as well as practical issues related to the tourism industry and the Greater Bay Area. As a result, my knowledge and awareness of China’s cultural history, as well as my industry knowledge has been enhanced. I will be sure to recommend future ‘Splendors of China’ trips and related events to colleagues to in order broaden their horizons and strengthen national knowledge and identity.”

Mr. Lawrence Ho and Ms. Zhang Jianhua, Deputy Director-General of Economic Affairs Department, Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in Macao SAR, present a souvenir to Dr. Zhu Andong from Tsinghua University at the “Splendors of China” Leadership Forum held in January, 2019.

The recent study trip follows on from Melco’s “Splendors of China” leadership forum held earlier this year in January. Hosted in collaboration with the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR, the event invited eminent professor, Dr. Zhu Andong of Tsinghua University to give a lecture on China’s economic opportunities, challenges and future development trajectory, and was attended by 800 employees and community members in Macau.
