As one of Macau’s leading integrated resort companies, Melco Resorts & Entertainment is committed to helping local small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) flourish as an integral part of the city’s sustainable development.
In recent months, the company has supported more than 70 local SMEs through initiatives including an SME-focused Christmas Bazaar at Studio City, and Christmas and Chinese New Year SME roadshows held at their employee-only Heart of House areas across its integrated resort and corporate office properties by providing rent-free booth spaces for retail opportunities
Studio City Christmas Bazaar
To celebrate the Christmas season, Melco invited over 40 local SMEs to showcase products and services at the festively decorated outdoor marketplace located at Studio City’s French Garden during December.
Guests were able to shop a wide range of products from food & beverage, handicrafts, toys, decorations, and furnishings, and other gift selections in the Bazaar. Moreover, there were a range of family-friendly activities, such as face painting, handicraft workshops, performances, and giveaways.
The Studio City Christmas Bazaar – Partnership with Local Small and Medium Enterprises received positive responses from SMEs who took part in a post-participation survey: with around 80% of vendors reporting that they were pleased with the event’s overall operations, including its duration, hours of operation, decoration, and booth settings; while more than 90% of vendors expressed interest in joining future Melco-hosted events supporting local SMEs.
“The Bazaar has been a positive and eye-opening experience for us as a local SME business. Having joined a few of Melco’s workshops dedicated to SME development last year, we were confident to explore our relationship further with the company and jumped at the opportunity to take part in the Studio City SME-dedicated Christmas Bazaar. Initially not quite knowing what to expect, the outdoor space was beautifully lit up at the opening event, creating a lovely, festive atmosphere. It has been a great opportunity for us as a company to gain increased exposure, promoting our brand and products and meeting new clients and fellow SMEs,” said Ms. Karen Chu, Executive Director of Paris Store Company Limited.
Festive SME roadshows for employees
Aside from the SME-focused Christmas Bazaar at Studio City targeting visitors and tourists, Melco invited nearly 30 local SME business owners to take part in its Christmas market and Chinese New Year roadshows for employees.
Held at Melco’s Heart of House areas across City of Dreams, Studio City, Altira Macau, as well as its corporate offices, the roadshow booths offer Melco colleagues a broad range of products from F&B to electronic appliances. The Melco Christmas Heart of House event received widespread support from employees, generating more than MOP300,000 in sales revenue for vendors.
Ms. Ip Man Ian, owner of local SME business Here Online Store commented, “The experience of setting up shop at the Studio City Christmas Bazaar has been great for us to get to know the ins and outs of working with a large corporation like Melco. We are now further extending our relationship with them through becoming operators of a booth in the employee-only area for the Chinese New Year, which we hope to be just as successful.”
Macau-first SME Pop Up stores for 2020
In the new year, Melco continues to build upon its philosophy to support the growth of local SMEs for the sustainable development of Macau, announcing its forthcoming Macau-first pop-up store initiative exclusively for local SME participation at Studio City. Under the scheme, Melco will subsidize rent-free retail spaces and essential operational resources for SMEs, optimizing their revenue through direct marketing and selling of products and services to the resort’s visitors, tourists, and shoppers.
Mr. Geoff Andres, Property President of Studio City, said, “Melco is firmly committed to supporting local SME business development in Macau. We are pleased to introduce the forthcoming Macau-first pop-up store initiative at our Studio City property to provide support and contribute to the advancement of local small and medium-scale businesses and look forward to working in collaboration with many more of our local vendors towards the sustainable development of Macau.”
